As are many places and structures in Alberta, the Chateau Lacombe was named in honour of
Father Albert Lacombe, a priest of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate. Born near Montreal in 1827, he went west to Alberta at the age of 25, ministering to natives and settlers alike. He ultimately built schools, churches and care homes throughout the province, becoming one of the best known and most revered pioneers of Alberta.
