The small village of Oyne lies around twenty miles to the north-west of the city of Aberdeen in the rural district of Garioch. Less than a mile to the east along the B9002 road is the Kirkton of Oyne which was the site of Oyne Parish Church or St. Ninian's Chapel. The church fell out of use around the turn of the 18th/19th century after a new church was built nearby in 1807 (this is now in a ruined state). The church was finally demolished in 1870 and its walls were used to build the wall that surrounds the graveyard.
The graveyard is of a rectangular shape within its walled surrounds, and contains graves dating mostly from the 19th century, although the oldest dates from 1782. The site of the church was towards the north-east corner.
The burial ground can be found on the north side of the B9002 around a mile west of the turn off from the A96 Aberdeen to Inverness road.
