"Transit" consists of 22 granite columns, each gradually becoming larger, that form a half helix which is most clearly evident from the satellite image. On the surface of each column is a photograph of some aspect of transportation taken from the Department of Transportation historic archives. Each photograph was chosen to commemorate a past achievement or current function of the Connecticut Department of Transportation.

On one of the shorter columns is the inscription:

TRANSIT BY ATHENA TACHA 1992
Commissioned by State of Connecticut for the
Department of Transportation through the Department of
Public Works and Connecticut Commission on the Arts.
