The Back o'Bennachie is the name given to the car parking area at the foot of the northern slope of Bennachie, an area of high ground in the district of Garioch in Aberdeenshire, around twenty miles north-west of the city of Aberdeen.
The sign and map are situated at the southern end of the car park at the beginning of the trails through the forest that lead up to the heather and granite clad tops of the hill.
The map is orientated in the direction you are facing which is south and it outlines the two trails that begin from this point. The Larick Trail (yellow) is 1.5 miles long and runs through the forested slopes. The Mither Tap Quarry Trail (red) is 5.5 miles long and takes in the two highest points of Bennachie, Oxen Craig and Mither Tap.
Also on the sign are information on the other three car parks and starting points at the foot of the hill. Rowantree, Donview, and the Bennachie Centre. The Back o'Bennachie can be reached from a narrow public road heading south from the B9002 west of the village of Oyne.
