[EN] "The new Hungerburg lift was designed by star architect Zaha Hadid and opened in December 2007.
The railway set new international standards for modern architecture due to the unusually designed stops. According to the architect, she was inspired by the ice and snow landscapes of the region. For this reason, the four stations - Congress, Löwenhaus, Alpenzoo and Hungerburg - are reminiscent of icy glacier forms and already make the nearby mountain feel in the heart of the city.
The contrast between the curved, light forms of the roofing and the firmly anchored concrete bases connected to the ground is what makes the buildings so special and gives the stations an almost magical weightlessness."
