The greenhouse was built in 1906, again to replace an earlier structure. It's been orderer by Sara Delano Roosevelt. It continues to be used today in the same sense as its historical use.
Fresh flowers, especially roses were important in the lives of the Roosevelts. Their surname is derived from roses, though not the same varieties, and the greenhouse may be the only structure used as it was in FDR's time. The National Park Services performed an extensive rehab of the structure 1989-90.
Today, they are using it from educational program and school visits. They actually grow the flowers used in the rose garden by Franklin D. Roosevelt and Eleonor Roosevelt.
