More specifically the sign is next to a former fishing lake that was left to nature's natural processes and is now a reedbed fen.

The fishing lake was always surrounded by reeds and sedges that were actively managed for thatching and bedding.

Eventually the management of the land stopped and the reeds naturally spread and took over the lake and formed dense reedbeds.

This process would eventually have dried out the wetlands and so Staffordshire Wildlife Trust now manage the land, and have restarted cutting a portion of the reeds each year to prevent them totally taking over.

The board describes the types of flora and fauna that can be found in this wetland area.

The board and wetland are next to the Shropshire Union Canal bridge 40 and can be accessed from the towpath. Alternatively there is a nearby car park for the nature reserve on the nearby Newport Road (A519).
