U.S. Congressman. He graduated from La Grange Junior College, in 1901, from the law department of the University of Missouri, in 1908 and was a professor of history, at Stephens College Missouri, (1904-08). Admitted to the bar in 1908, he commenced to practice law in Troy, Missouri, in 1911. He became a clerk in the office for the Speaker of the House of U.S. Representatives, serving (1915-20). In 1923, he was elected as a Democrat to the Sixty-eighth Congress and to the next twenty succeeding Congresses, serving until his death at age 85. The Clarence Cannon Memorial Airport in Kirksville, Missouri, was named in his honor. The Cannon Damn on the Mississippi River is named in his honor.
