"The building is at the southern limit of the property, it measures fifty-three meters long by thirteen fifty meters, on vaults of warheads resting on central columns and walls on truncated pyramid bases.
It was built by the monks in the late twelfth century to work the ore that was extracted from the hill overlooking the monastery.
The diversion of the stream of Fontenay, along the wall of the forge, turned wheels that operated the swifts to beat the iron.
