Le Linge fut un champ de bataille de la Première Guerre mondiale autour du collet du Linge où un affrontement particulièrement meurtrier se déroula entre le 20 juillet et le 16 octobre 1915 et fit environ 17 000 disparus dont 10 000 français, ceux que l'on a appelé "les poilus", au cours de la Bataille du Linge, suivi d'une guerre de position jusqu'au 11 novembre 1918.

The Linge was a battlefield of the First World War around the neck of the Linge where a particularly deadly confrontation took place between July 20 and October 16, 1915 and made about 17 000 missing including 10 000 French, those that we have called "the hairy", during the Battle of Linge, followed by a war of position until November 11, 1918
