From the plaque: "The Ohlone Indians were the first human inhabitants of this area. The preparation of dood was key social and religious aspect of their daily lives. Acorns were one of the most important foods in their diet. The Indian women used a stone morater and pestle to grind up acorns. The mortar, a stone bowl, held the acorns. The pestle, a stick shaped rock was used to hit the acorns until they were ground into a fine powder. The poweder was used to male bread, soup and mush."
