Rudyard Lake is a two and a half mile long lake that was created between 1797 and 1800 as a reservoir.
It is popular location offering walking, boating, sailing and fishing, a converted boat house as a visitor centre. A miniature steam railway runs along the side of the lake on the Reacliffe Road track. There is a five-mile walking route available around the lake. (

The steps lead up from the track near the dam at Rudyard Lake. A wooden gate provides access to the steps and a footpath sign points the direction. A stile at the top provides access to a public footpath that crosses farmland and fields towards Green Lane and on towards the A532 Macclesfield Road. The steps are a mixture of soil, wood and stone. There is a metal hand rail for the steeper top part of the stairway. (
