Ehemaliges Wohn- und Geschäftshaus mit Innenhof und Hintergebäuden in geschlossener Bebauung; gehört zu den eindruckvollsten Gebäudekomplexen des Rokoko in Plauen, heute Museum, große baugeschichtliche und ortsgeschichtliche Bedeutung. Das Doppelhaus Nummer 9 und 11 wurde 1787 bis 1789 vom Baumwollwarenhändler Johann Gottfried Baumgärtel im Louis-seize- und im Empirestil errichtet. Besonders ist der Festsaal hervorzuheben. Er nimmt in der ersten Etage die gesamte Gebäudebreite ein.
Das heutige Vogtlandmuseum ist ein klassizistischer Komplex aus drei Häusern, errichtet im späten 18.Jahrhundert als Wohn- und Geschäftshäuser reicher Plauener Baumwollwarenhändler; mit Seitentrakten, Gartenflügeln, vier Innenhöfen und drei Gärten; sowohl wegen der wertvollen Fassadengestaltung als auch wegen ihrer Inneneinrichtung zählen die Bauten zu den wertvollsten Baudenkmälern des Vogtlandes.
Das Vogtlandmuseum Plauen ist das Regionalmuseum des Vogtlandes.
Im Herzen der Spitzenstadt Plauen gelegen, widmet es sich dem historischen Territorium der einstigen, im Mittelalter zeitweise zu Landesherren aufgestiegenen Vögte, die der Region ihren Namen gaben. Es sammelt und zeigt Exponate aus mehr als 1000 Jahren Siedlungsgeschichte, würdigt die vogtländische Kultur und zeigt authentisch die Lebensart in der Region im Spiegel der Jahrhunderte. Mit etwa 120.000 Objekten beherbergt es die umfangreichste Sammlung zur vogtländischen Regionalgeschichte und Kultur. Kleinen und großen Kunstgenießern bietet die „Vogtländische Malerei“ einen Querschnitt aus der Gemäldesammlung aus insgesamt 5 Jahrhunderten.
