Bastard-Platane - Kölner Zoo, Köln, Germany - Exceptional Trees on Waymarking.com

Zwischen dem Südamerikahaus und einem kleinen See befindet sich der älteste Baum des Kölner Zoos. Unterhalb des Baums wurden einige Bänke aufgestellt, die sich für ein Picknick mit Ausblick auf den See anbieten.

Bei dem Baum handelt sich um eine über 150 Jahre alte Bastard-Platane bzw. ahornblättrige Platane, lateinisch: Platanus × hispanica. Bekannt ist nur, dass sie vor 1860 gepflanzt worden ist. 1864 wurde nämlich das erste Gebäude des Zoos, das damalige Anitilopen- und Giraffenhaus, erbaut. Es ist ebenso wie die Platane bis heute erhalten worden.

Der Baum ist unter der Nummer ND 503.01b als Naturdenkmal eingestuft und entsprechend geschützt.

Between the South America House and a small lake, the oldest tree in the Cologne Zoo is located. Beneath the tree, several benches have been set up to picnic with a view of the lake.

The tree is a more than 150-year-old London planetree, Latin: Platanus × hispanica. It is only known that it was planted before 1860. In 1864, the zoo's first building, the then antelope and giraffe house, was built. It has been preserved as well as the planetree to this day.

The tree is classified as a natural monument with the number ND 503.01b and protected accordingly.
