"Before his passing in April 2014, Captain Herb Emory annually hosted a game for students as part of the Live Healthy Douglas Power in Truth Conference.

"He made the game a true contest between the schools that showed directly what was learned that day. Captain Herb hosted the game for the first 10 years of the Conference, and truly poured his heart and soul into helping students learn to make better decisions.

"Cobb and Douglas Public Health and the UGA Extension Service, who co-sponsor the Power in Truth Conference, wanted to place a permanent tribute to Captain Herb as a thank you for his service to the Conference and to his fellow residents of Douglas County.

"Working with Wes Tallon of Douglas County Communications and Mark Price of Courthouse Building Management, a small garden was created in front of the Douglas County Courthouse in Captain Herb's honor and memory.

"Alternative Environments of Villa Rica provided the landscaping at its cost, and Mableton Marble and Granite Company provided the bench at its costs. Funding for the project was provided by all four partners.

"On Friday morning, April 17th, Mrs. Karen Emory, wife of Captain Herb, came to the Courthouse to see the Garden. The bench is engraved with the words "Captain Herb Emory Garden" and a brass plaque in the Garden describes its purpose.
