In Cambridge, along Massachusetts Avenue is the Cambridge Common.
The common is bounded by Massachusetts Avenu, Garden Street, and Waterhouse Street. The area is roughly triangular shaped. It is generally grassy with trees providing shade. At the center is a Civil War monument. Several paths radiate out from it. To the west is a grouping of monuments related to George Washington taking command of the Colonial Army. There is also a memorial about the Irish Hunger event. Other signs highlight the history of Cambridge.
On the east and southwest side of the common is Harvard University. To the west and north are residences and churches.
