Messerschmitt 163 Komet
The only Rocket-Powered aircraft used in Combat during the 20th Century
in 1941, the German air force tested an impressive experimental rocket plane –– the Me 163. The Luftwaffe began to take delivery of the Me 163 Komet in 1944. Despite its performance, this fighter was impractical. Its extreme speed actually made it harder for pilots to hit their targets. The airplane also had a short-range –– it burned fuel very quickly. The two fuels required were highly corrosive and dangerous to work with. Messerschmitt, Klemm and Junkers only manufactured 400 Komets.
