Justin achieved the rank of Eagle Scout at age 17, climbing through the ranks of Cub Scout and Boy Scout. While he was a Cub Scout he earned "The Arrow of Light", Cub Scout's highest award.

During his years as a scout he participated in many projects that demonstrate giving back to the community.

Through his scout training, he learned how to respond to emergencies and how to administer first aid. On November 8, 2002, Justin was awarded a very selective and rare Heroism Award for saving the life of his employer, Kevin Correll, at Apple Blossom Village. On January 5, 2002, Mr. Correll had an accident in which his hand was drawn into a machine up to his wrist. Justin administered first aid while Mr. Correll's daughter went for help. Emergency personnel were unable to free Mr. Correll's hand, but Justin continued to work to reverse the action of the machine and freed Mr. Correll who was in shock, losing blood, and dangerously weak. Through Justin's heroic deed Mr. Correll did not lose his hand, but did have to have two of his fingers amputated. Justin's ability to keep a cool head and take command of such a situation is unusual for a 17 year-old.

Another of Justin's major achievements is his Eagle Scout project for which he raised both monetary and material donation for renovations at the Bangor Public Library. Through his efforts the parking lot has been paved, landscaped and bordered with seven brick pillars capped with architectural balls. The lot is enclosed by 165 feet of black aluminum fencing and decorated with a statue, a clock, accent lighting, and a refurbished sign.

Throughout his enrollment in the Bangor Area School District, Justin has been on the honor roll. He has decided to make a career as a plumbing and HVAC technician and is currently working in that field. His new employer has asked him to become a member of the business and has offered to pay for his education. It is Justin's dream to eventually become a partner of his employer or have his own business.
