County of lions: St. Charles County
Location of lions: 3611 Schutzen St., New Melle
The pair of lions, on the stairs, guarding the house.
This house was built about 1880 as a rectory for the German Methodist Episcopal Church, sold to the Baptists in 1960, when Methodist membership declined, then sold to Ernie Arteaga in 1971. Ernie made the church into a home, and converted this building into a Tea Room and Antique store. When he closed the Tea Room, the building was rented as an art gallery by Fraser Leonard.
Now, the reason for the history, I doubt the lions showed up for the churches, so the guess is the Tea Room & Antique store..and have just stayed around ever since.
