This sign is located along State Highway 70 in northern Wisconsin. The location is within the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest. The spot supposed sits on the watershed divide, with the Great Lakes watershed (covering 201,460 sq mi in additional to land covered by the St Lawrence River) to the east and the Mississippi River watershed (covering 1,245,000 sq mi) to the west. Both of those fall withing the much larger Atlantic watershed, the largest watershed in North America (covering 2,250,000 sq mi).

THIS DIVIDE IS THE SOURCE OF MANY STREAMS FLOWING FROM THE NICOLET. MILLIONS OF PEOPLE THROUGHOUT THE NATION DEPEND ON NATIONAL FOREST WATERSHEDS FOR LIFEGIVING STREAMS OF CLEAN, CLEAR WATER.
