Sandilands is an imposing two storey stucco rendered conservative Classical style house most probably built in the early 1850s for Portland doctor, William S Sutherland. The building combines Colonial Georgian styling and Doric portico with Italianate stylistic motifs. In 1911 the building was converted to a guest house.
