Possibly the oldest of America's big civic peanuts, this one honors Joe T. Sheehy, "The Peanut King," who died in 1967. It has a place of honor on the courthouse lawn.

Roadside AmericaOn the Wilson County courthouse lawn in Floresville sits this giant peanut statue. Peanuts have been a major crop in the area for some time.
The plaque below the peanut states that it was erected by the Jaycees and Jaycee-ettes and is dedicated to the citizens of Wilson County.
The sign to the right states: "In loving memory of 'The Peanut King' Joe T. Sheehy who in 1916 experimented with peanut farming and introduced it as a viable crop to the farmers of Wilson County."
The sign was placed by the descendants of Joe T. Sheehy.
