Decked in signature black-and-white tile, River Oaks Shopping Center is an outdoor, beautiful art-deco relic from 1937. Most of the upscale shops are still unique, but the march of the chains has begun with dueling Starbucks locations.

This shopping center was one of the first outdoor shopping malls in Houston. The shops here are more upscale than those found on Lower Westheimer. Most of them are still unique, but the march of the chains has begun with two dueling Starbucks locations across the street from each other. So far the only other invaders have been Gap and Ann Taylor. The other tenants remain local favorites. There are a couple of restaurants in the center, most single-outlets owned by Landry’s (failed prototypes?).
