A joint effort of the Chicopee Memorial and Patriotic Committee, a collection of 11 veterans' organizations in Chicopee, and the Department of Veterans' Services raise the funds to create the War on Terror Memorial which was dedicated on May 19, 2018. It currently honors six veterans with ties to Chicopee that were killed in acts of terror.

The memorial has a gray granite sculpture depicting a female member of the military kneeling on her left knee in front of a soldier's boots, gun and helmet, which is known as a battlefield cross. She has her right hand supporting her bowed head and her helmet on the ground by her left side.
