The castle of Burgos had an important role in the history of the city. The small fortress raised in the high of the hill of San Miguel in the year 884 (year of the foundation of the city) turned into great Royal(Real) fortress, place of prison, and place of housing for notable guests. The soldiers of Napoleon demolished it in the year 1813 little before leaving the city.
