This beautiful memorial is located in the town of Clearview. Clearview is one of only 13 of the original 50 all-black towns founded in the early 20th Century. Today, the town has no commercial buildings, and only a population of 48, but the town is fiercely loyal and faithful to its memory of three of its former citizens.
The monument is a granite slab which is engraved and has been placed on a raised concrete platform, with two flagpoles. The monument reads:
Clearview War Memorial This memorial is dedicated to all who served --
We will never forget the three brave men who lost their lives on the battlefields protecting our freedom They are:James B. Black WWII - 1944 U.S. Army Leonard "Mutt" Mayberry WWII - 1944 U.S.Amry Anthony Grundy Vietnam - 1968 U.S.M.C.
Fear not that ye have died for naught The torch you threw us we caught Millions of hands will hold it high And freedoms light shall never die
