The Xeriscape Demonstration Garden provides an educational resource demonstrating ways to save water in the garden. It covers 5.5 acres and sits atop a 5 million gallon reservoir from the adjacent Chaparral Water Treatment plant. Signage placed throughout the area describes the plants used and the techniques designed to support those plants. Water retention basins, mulching and plant layering show how to retain water, prevent runoff and support a variety of plants in a garden. There are over 200 species of plants in the garden and it is a designated National Wildlife Federation Wildlife Habitat. A master gardener hotline is available for questions.
