The Great Smokey Mountain Railway offers three-hour and longer excursions. On some, dinner is served. Special offerings include dinner and mystery trips and a Polar Express recreation. The schedule varies by season. Service is available in Bryson City and Dillsboro. During "leaf season", advance reservations are strongly recommended.
The restored terminal is made of wood and was constructed about 1900. It underwent refurbishing in 1973, and later was modified to accommodate large numbers of tourists.
