The Person:

Information provided by Meagan Beckwith
Tourism Public Relations Specialist for Grand Prairie, Texas:

"Starting in the mid-1980s and forging into the new Millennium, Teri Jackson served Grand Prairie as a City Council Member. Through her dedicated service, Jackson guided the city through some of its most important economic milestones including negotiations for a Class 1 horse racetrack, Lone Star Park at Grand Prairie. It was during those negotiations that Jackson secured property for Grand Prairie Tourist Information Center. Thanks to the donated property and funds saved over the years at Jackson's urging, this center was realized at a prime location much sooner than anticipated. It was renamed for her in May 2000.

A Council Member since 1986, Jackson served as Mayor Pro Tem from 1994-1995, as Secretary on the Grand Prairie Sports Facilities Development Corporation 1993-2003, and as Finance and Government Committee Chairwoman 1990-2003. She held advisory positions on the Regional Transportation Council, EMS task forces, Tourism Advisory Board and Compensation Negotiations Committee.

Jackson was also active in the Texas Municipal League serving as Secretary, Region 13 President and State Board of Directors for Region 13. She was a 1994 graduate of the prestigious Leadership Texas program for outstanding women in leadership roles. On a national level, Jackson served on the National League of Cities' Community and Economic Development Policy Steering Committee.

Jackson's contributions to Grand Prairie were rewarded on numerous occasions. She was named Citizen of the Year in 2001. She earned the 1994 Athena Award and 1995 Chairman of the Board Award from the Grand Prairie Chamber of Commerce and the 1996 Woman of Distinction from Soroptimist International. Three times she earned the MAP Award for outstanding performance from her employer. Through the years, Jackson chaired several special events including Lone Stars and Stripes, Western Days Rodeo and Lakefest, served on the board of Children First and was a member of the Women's Division of the Chamber of Commerce."
