Between Niederkassel-Lülsdorf and Köln-Porz-Langel a flood area of 160 ha was furnished. The flood area was enclosed with dams.
This area is flooded when required to lower the water level of the Rhine. To be able to steer the flood, this weir was established as part of the dam to the Rhine.

The building is 255. 6 m long and has 27 weirs of 8. 25-m width with two flaps which can be opened mechanically.
