"From Monday, as part of the work of the Flood Prevention Action Program, the lift bridge of Gabut will be closed to motor traffic
As part of the Papi (Flood Prevention Action Program), the lift bridge Gabut will be closed to traffic for several months, from Monday (February 6).
Initially the Papi's work on Avenue Michel-Crépeau should have started in January. Finally, they will begin in February, the 6th. These major developments of the Avenue Michel-Crépeau, along the entrance channel of the Old Port, will therefore cause the closure of the road to all traffic.
Cyclists and pedestrians will continue to use the Gabut Bridge (Scherzer swing bridge) during construction. Jean-Marc Soubeste (deputy EELV in charge of mobility) said that the city "will take advantage of this site and this interruption of traffic to make a diagnosis on the old bridge and proceed to interventions that should be done. "
"Reopen as soon as possible"
At the end of the project, the Wood Town district will of course be protected from submersion risks and Avenue Michel-Crépeau will be secured. "We want to limit speeds, often excessive, on this path," said the elected ecologist. And the deputy reminded that a bike path will also see the day.
Finally, Jean-Marc Soubeste guarantees that car traffic will be re-established on the Gabut bridge as soon as work is completed. "There is no question of experimenting a carless Gabut bridge", responds firmly to the one who is also candidate EELV in the first constituency law. The deputy hopes for a quick project to reopen the car traffic as soon as possible. "
