In medieval times, look-out towers guarding together with a wide stripe made of thorny and dense bushes, called "Landwehr", the perimeters of the Cities.
The "Haxter Warte" was part of the perimeter defence system of Paderborn and was equipped with a surrounding moat and stone wall.
The remnants was blown by retreating Wehrmacht troops in April 1945 and the tower was reconstructed in 2009.
Now you have a fine view into the Egge Mountains, the Teutoburger Forest and the Lippe Plains.
