This dirt perimeter trail begins at the Giant Cross in Sewanee, the location of a beautiful view of the valley below. A large wooden sign at the beginning of the trail shows maps of the area, but little information on the trail itself. According to the informative website link, the entire perimeter trail is 20 miles long, but the short perimeter trail around the cross area is 1.25 miles long. A wooden post nearby gives the following information on the trail, which begins on the right.

Proctor's Hall 4/10 mile (right)
Downtown Sewanee 1.6 miles (left)
The trail thru the wooded area is all dirt, with some steep hazards so please be careful. The view is stunning!

Your GPS may not be the best way to access this trailhead (ours was very wrong!). To get to the Memorial Cross trailhead, go into town, then head southwest on Tenneesee Avenue.
