This culvert on Hiwassee Road is south of Britton Road, just north of Jones Elementary School. The concrete tunnel is approximately 4 ft. high and 8 ft. wide. The quality of the concrete in these Depression-Era culverts is great and we can't help but notice the lack of decay and erosion. The concrete walls of the tunnel were poured using 8 to 12 inch boards, rather than plywood panels which might be used today. This culvert was constructed in 1936 according to the WPA shield stamped in the curbing.
