Die Stadt Amberg mit ihrer fast tausendjährigen Geschichte und der eindrucksvollen, historischen Kulisse ist ein modernes Hochschul-, Einkaufs- und Dienstleistungszentrum mit einem breit gefächerten Kulturangebot. Alt und Neu greifen eng ineinander und ergänzen sich zu einem harmonischen Ganzen.
Zahlreiche historische Gebäude prägen das unverwechselbare Erscheinungsbild der Stadt. Noch heute besticht die heimliche Hauptstadt der Oberpfalz mit einem geschlossenen mittelalterlichen Stadtkern. Die Altstadt ist fast vollständig mit einer Stadtmauer, zahlreichen Türmen und Toren umgeben und weist mit der „Stadtbrille“ einen einzigartigen Wassertorbau auf. Das gotische Rathaus, zahlreiche Kirchen, Bürgerhäuser und Klosteranlagen liegen in der von der Vils durchflossenen Altstadt, deren historischer Marktplatz einer Piazza im Süden in nichts nachsteht.

The city of Amberg with its almost thousand years of history and the impressive, historic scenery is a modern university, shopping and service center with a wide range of cultural offerings. Old and new interlock closely and complement each other to form a harmonious whole.
Numerous historical buildings characterize the unmistakable appearance of the city. Even today, the secret capital of the Upper Palatinate boasts a closed medieval city center. The old town is almost completely surrounded by a city wall, numerous towers and gates and has the "city goggles" a unique water gate. The Gothic town hall, numerous churches, town houses and monasteries are situated in the old town, which is traversed by the Vils, whose historic market square is in no way inferior to a piazza in the south.
