FR Depuis la Préhistoire, l'extrémité nord du plateau abritait un village préhistorique, retranché derrière un rempart de 120 m, constituant ainsi un oppidum. Cet oppidum, dit de Villevieille, du nom du village qui lui a succédé, appartenait aux Sogiontiques.
Dans l’Antiquité, le territoire de Ganagobie fait partie de celui des Sogiontiques (Sogiontii), dont le territoire s’étend du sud des Baronnies à la Durance.
Le prieuré est fondé à la fin du xe siècle. La seigneurie appartenait aux évêques de Sisteron, qui en font don à l’abbaye de Cluny. Ce monastère conserve une grande importance jusqu’au xve siècle : il abrite un temps les reliques de saint Honorat d'Arles, transportées de l’abbaye de Lérins.
En 1471, la communauté de Ganagobie est complètement dépeuplée par la crise du xive siècle (Peste noire et guerre de Cent Ans).
Le village sera lors habité puis abandonné avant de l'être définitivement pour un lieu plus accessible, plus bas, au pied du plateau. Ne resterons alors sur le plateau que les moines.
EN Since Prehistory, the northern end of the plateau was home to a prehistoric village, entrenched behind a wall of 120 m, constituting an oppidum. This oppidum, said de Villevieille, after the name of the village which succeeded him, belonged to the Sogiontiques.
In Antiquity, the territory of Ganagobie is part of that of the Sogiontiques (Sogiontii), whose territory extends from the south of Baronnies to the Durance.
The priory is founded at the end of the tenth century. The seigniory belonged to the bishops of Sisteron, who donate it to the abbey of Cluny. This monastery has a great importance until the fifteenth century: it houses a time the relics of Saint Honorat d'Arles, transported from the Lérins Abbey.
In 1471, the community of Ganagobie is completely depopulated by the crisis of the fourteenth century (Black Death and Hundred Years War).
The village will be inhabited then abandoned before being definitively for a more accessible place, lower, at the foot of the plateau. Only then will the monks remain on the board.
