[EN] "New security concept at the Christmas market
The 44th Christmas and New Year's Market, which opens on Monday and lasts until 7 January, is supplemented by a security concept. This is new. The locations where it takes place are old: From the Old Mint to the Cathedral, the main market is installed, and the arts and crafts market is located in the courtyard of the Culture and Town Hall. In front of the Altpörtel is an ice rink.
In the basic framework, the overall concept with the title "Christmas in Speyer" remains unchanged. 33 sales and 17 food stands will be located on the main market. The children's bakery of the Kinderschutzbund, which had been relocated to the Altpörtel in recent years, is also returning there. It is open daily from Monday, 27 November, from 3 pm to 7 pm. Helper can still announce themselves by E-Mail under kinderbackstube@kinderschutzbund-speyer.de or by telephone (06232 72298). With the sky telephone (Monday to Friday, 3 pm to 5 pm) and a small roundabout, the market provides an offer for the next generation.
For the visitors hardly to feel, but for the market mastery of the city a challenge is the new arrangement of the booths. "In February of this year we had a test drive and instructor exercise with the fire brigade," explained Eva Neskudla, who is responsible for the market with Heidi Jester, on Monday evening during the presentation of the concept in the town hall.
Market is moving onto the streets
The result: The passage behind the stalls at the front of the houses had to be widened, so that the entire market ensemble continues to move onto the streets. Monday was day one of construction. "We were always in the back with the tape measure," Neskudla assured.
She was particularly pleased about the skating rink. "We have found that this is a positive economic factor in other municipalities," the market master noted. There has been an ice rink before. After about eight years of vacancy she returns (we reported). Only on three weekends there will be an arts and crafts market this year. "Since the 24th of December falls on the last weekend, we could not get enough participants to participate", Neskudla informed about the reasons.
Mall plays its own Advent program
Barbara Fresenius from the municipal press office presented the "Christmas market of the twin towns" as an integral part of the programme. 25 raven dates are expected on the first weekend. The circle of friends Kursk, Chartres and Gnesen follow. The Circle of Friends of Rwanda shares the third weekend with the Cathedral Construction Association.
The lovers of the cultural Advent calendar must orient themselves anew. In contrast to previous years, it no longer takes place in the Postgalerie, but in the Zimmertheater, the Historisches Ratssaal or the Altes Stadtsaal, according to the musical, literary or dramaturgical contributions. The Mall plays its own Advent programme. Jubiliert becomes with old mortar in flames (7./13 December, each 19.30 o'clock). In 1997, the music fireworks were first lit at the city gate."
