During World War II, No 31 Bombing and Gunnery School operated out of nearby RCAF Station Picton. Personnel from Commonwealth Air Forces trained here before being sent to operational squadrons in Europe and SW Asia.

While at Picton crews trained on multi-engine aircraft such as the Fairey Battle, Avro Anson and the Bristol Bolingbroke. The prop, from a Bolingbroke, is used to remember the six RAF members who died in training, as well as all personnel of the Canadian Forces. Their markers are next to the propeller.
