The Town of Petawawa is "Dynamic by Nature". These coordinates are for the municipal building which houses town staff and Council Chambers.

Adjoining the Town Hall are the fire department and a social services office. A town clock rises above the main entrance. As is shown in the accompanying photo, meeting rooms and offices that look out the back have an amazing view of the Petawawa River below and the park that winds its way down to the river.

In the late 1990s there was a push by the Ontario Government to reduce the number of municipalities. In accordance with that, in 1997, the Township of Petawawa (formed in 1865) and the Village of Petawawa (formed in 1961) amalgamated into the new Town of Petawawa.

At 17,000 in population, Petawawa is the largest municipality on the upper Ottawa River.

The Town is home to Garrison Petawawa, one of Canada's largest military installations. The Garrison has nearly over 5,000 military personnel and nearly 1,000 civilian employees. In the last few years, the Canadian government has invested billions of dollars into the Garrison with one of the most notable additions being the headquarters for the new 450 Tactical Helicopter Squadron.

Also of an economic note is that Canadian Nuclear Laboratories has a very large research facility near the town that employs many Petawawa residents.

Recreationally, between the Garrison and the Town, there are a tremendous number of fitness opportunities. The Ottawa River is a great boating location and mountain bike trails and paths wind through the town.
