[EN] "The Marienkirche, officially St. Marien zu Lübeck, was built from 1250 to 1350 and has always been a symbol for power and prosperity of the old Hanseatic city. The Bürger- und Marktkirche is located on the highest point of Lübeck's Old Town Island and, together with the old town of Lübeck, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

With the premiere of the transfer of the highly Gothic French cathedral system to brick, this church is a model for 80 daughter churches in Northern Europe. In the history of organ and music, St. Mary's Church also occupies an important place in the history of organ and music, and was in turn the place of activity of the famous Dietrich Buxtehude. The church, with its almost 40-metre-high nave, is the tallest brick nave in the world and is also distinguished by its 125-metre-high west towers and the letter chapel, which was built in the style of English chapterhouses. The interior decoration includes the astronomical clock from 1967, the world's largest mechanical church organ from 1968, the baptismal font of Apengeter from 1337 and the golden winged altar from Antwerp from 1518. In a commemorative chapel in the south tower of the church there are the bells that fell down during the night of the fire of 28 March 1942, where they were preserved as a memorial. The seven-voiced glockenspiel was installed in the South Tower after the war."
