Humbert Funeral Home is the oldest continuously operated business in Confluence. Established in the early 1860s, it has been serving the Turkeyfoot Valley area for approximately 150 years.

Adam R. Humbert was born in Milford Township, November 19, 1836. When the Civil War broke out, he enlisted in Co. G 49th PA Regiment and after serving his first enlistment, signed on for a second. Originally a carpenter and cabinet maker who often made caskets for local families, he transitioned into funeral service and established the business that exists today. It is believed that he started in funeral service before the onset of the Civil War and resumed it following his return to Confluence. Mr. Humbert worked until 1912, when his son, Charles, took over management of the funeral home. He died July 26, 1920, at the age of 83. At the time of his death, he was the oldest funeral director in Western Pennsylvania.

Charles B. Humbert was one of five children of Adam Humbert, the founder of Humbert Funeral Home. Charles was born on July 23, 1884 in Confluence. He worked for Pittsburgh Steel before beginning work for his father in 1912. Charles attended embalming school in Pittsburgh and founded the first funeral home building in Confluence. Prior to this, bodies were viewed at home. Other locations were used before he built the current building on Logan Place, which was opened October 12, 1941. Mr. Humbert retired in the late 1950s. Like his father, Charles had a long career in funeral service and was the oldest member of the Somerset County Funeral Directors Association at the time of his death on April 7, 1974, at the age of 89.

Norton F. Humbert, son of Charles Humbert, was born on September 7, 1924. He graduated from Confluence High School in 1943 and attended Greenbrier Military School before enlisting in the U.S. Army. Mr. Humbert was a veteran of World War II, and attended Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science. He became a licensed funeral director in 1949. Over the years, he made several additions to the current building, updating it to its present appearance. Norton worked at the funeral home until his death on February 15, 1993 at the age of 68. Norton's son, Max Humbert, who was licensed in 1975, is the current owner and supervisor of Humbert Funeral Home. Max is a fourth generation funeral director.
