To the west of the church there used to be rectory now gone where according to legend the daughter of an 18th century rector was murdered by a treacherous butler. The ‘Grey Lady’ is now said to haunt the area.

The Swithland Rectory (1820) The murder of the Rector daughter by the butler named Parker, who then took his own life. Over time villagers have claimed that they have heard awful screams emanating from the rectory at nighttime. The Rectory was pulled down after the First World War.
There have also been claims of a ghost in the churchyard of St Leonard’s, a young female wearing a dress is now referred to as the The Grey Lady of Swithland."
