We titled this Hiwassee (2) for no official reason, but to differentiate it from other culverts along Hiwassee Road. This culvert crosses Hiwassee just south of where Covell Road would come through if Covell hadn't been interrupted along a four mile stretch in this area. This is about one mile north of Route 66. We might not have spotted this culvert were it not for the bright yellow and black warning sign

The culvert is a reinforced concrete tunnel approximately 4 ft. high and 6 feet wide. It carries water under Hiwassee Road at the location of an unnamed creek. There is heavy foliage along both sides of the road. A WPA stamp on the concrete curbing shows the date 1936.

The website below describes the extensive road and bridge work done in Oklahoma by the New Deal programs.
