This is an African-American cemetery, and historians claim this was an actual island during 1804 or thereabouts. The Loutre River's mouth was about this location flowing into the Missouri River.
Today, the Missouri River is a narrow steam compared to it's size in the early 1800s. It was over 1½ miles wide at this point in those days...

Today, this cemetery is about 2 miles N. of the banks of the Missouri River...
