Fairmont Cemetery is also known as Old Mullan Cemetery located in Shoshone County, Idaho. Mullan has an interesting history, named after John Mullen a topographical engineers assigned the task of building a 640 mile military wagon road between Fort Walla Walla in Washington Territory and Fort Benton on the Missouri River, better known as "Mullan Road.
Mullan is on the east end of the Silver Valley, a sheltered canyon of the Coeur d'Alene Mountains. Mullen has a current population of 475 residents offering a Mullan museum, fishing and hunting.
Fairmont Cemetery is very rustic and is approximately 2 acres in size. Though somewhat over grown, at the time we visited, the tall headstones are viable, most very interesting. There are a few wrought iron enclosures that still remain, most likely family plots.
Fairmont Cemetery was established around 1890. There are approximately 167 known interments with the first two:
Samuel J. Denoyan birth unknown and passed away on May 29, 1890.
John Donnelly born in 1835 and passed away in 1890.
