The Skylon Tower dominates the skyline of Niagara Falls during the day and when lighted at night. It is a 560' observation tower that has a rotating restaurant at the top. Construction of the $7,000,000 tower began in May 1964 and opened on October 6, 1965. It was designed by Bregman + Hamann Architects in the Googie style of architecture and Pigott Construction Company was the main contractor.
On the outside of each of the three sides of the tower a yellow elevator can carry passengers to the top of the tower. The distance is covered in 52 seconds. At the top of the tower there is a revolving restaurants that seats 276 people and rotates once per hour. Above is a this restaurant is the smaller Summit Suite Buffet restaurant. An observation deck sits at the tower's summit.
