United Methodist Church of Batavia was constructed in 1887. The church has a facade of field stones from farms around Batavia and an interior of Georgian pine. The building was designed by Solon Spencer Beman, famed architect of Chicago's Pullman Community and designer of the 1884 Studebaker Building on Michigan Avenue in Chicago in a French Romanesque style.
The church building was a gift to the congregation from Captain Don Carlos Newton, Civil War Veteran and wealthy Batavia Industrialist and the Reverend E. H. Gammon, former pastor of the church.
