An old water pump in a small open square just off the Markt in the centre of Bruges.

Situated in a small tree-filled square in Sint-Amandsstraat, a pedestrian street lined with restauants, this old pump was hand operated until the water supply to Bruges was modernised.
Is is some 6.5m high, a square section base about 2.5m high with a 4m high tapered column on top, surmounted by a globe.
The handle is on the south side with the simple spout on the west and the access door to the mechanism on the west side. The base of the column has the representation of leaves carved into it, the top of the base has a bi-tapered top. There is a channel in the pavés leading away from the pump to remove excess water from its vicinity.

 How to find.: From the west side of the market square take the narrow entrance and walk about 100m along this cobblestoned street. Pump is amongst the trees on the south side of the small square.
