EN It was in the 17th century that ditches protecting the ramparts of the city were filled to develop a wide avenue, the current course Sextius.
Canon John Baptist of the Chaîne and his brother, President of Parliament, decided to create a parish for this suburb facing the door of the Cordeliers.
Travelers and carriers were making a stopover between Marseille and the Alps.
In 1697, Jean and Laurent vallon were commissioned by a convent and a church whose work ended in 1702. Its unusual plan in the shape of a Greek cross has an undeniable relationship with the two previous achievements of Vallon, the churches of Jesuits and Preachers. Of the five domes originally planned, only the central nave and the south aisle were made. A north aisle will be added in the nineteenth century. It was here that Paul Cézanne's wedding was celebrated with Hortense Fiquet.
