"On April 4, 1816, twelve persons met to form the Baptist church. The twenty-four members of the Baptist church met in the Congregational church, the school house and various homes until 1829 when a church edifice was built on the present site. In 1858, after 20 years of controversy, the opposing faction of the church withdrew to form the Primitive Old School Baptist Church on Willow Street. This church is no longer used.

In 1854 the Baptist church was rebuilt at the cost of $2000. Many improvements were made in 1913. Another division came among the congregation in 1952, and the pastor, Rev. Ronald Williams and a company of the members formed the Faith Baptist Church on Center Street.

In the past decade many more improvements have been made in the Main Street church, including an education building and the renovation of the auditorium in 1974."
